PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method for optical module, capable of improving the manufacturing yield of the optical module. SOLUTION: In a derivation process, the differential efficiency curve of I/L characteristics of an LD chip are acquired at a constant temperature (S1, S2), and the inclination of an approximate straight line of the differential efficiency curve is calculated (S3). The CSO (composite second-order) curve of the LD chip is acquired at a constant temperature (S4). The steps S1-S4 are repeated for a plurality of LD chips, and the correspondence relation between the inclination of the approximate straight line and an optimum drive current is derived (S5). In a determination step, the differential efficiency curve of I/L characteristics of a mounting LD chip is acquired at a constant temperature, the inclination of the approximate straight line of the differential efficiency curve is calculated, and the derived correspondence relation is referred to, thereby the optimum drive current value of the mounting LD chip is determined from the approximate straight line of the mounting LD chip.
