PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect coordinates of frames in a same kind of business forms having different positions and size of character frames and field frames and arrangement relation of frames without creating format information for each business form. SOLUTION: This business form processor divides the business form into partial areas and creates a plurality of partial format information for each area. In recognition of the business form, input images are collated with partial formats for every area to select the optimal partial format. The format information of the whole business form is generated by synthesizing the optimal partial areas in each partial area. Thus, the coordinates of the frames are extracted from dynamically generated format information. Consequently, a semi-fixed business form is recognized with sufficient accuracy by utilizing the partial format information. Furthermore, man-hour for generating the format information is reduced in comparison with the conventional case to reduce capacity of the format information. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
