PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for automatically adjusting optical axis at an installation site and aligning the optical axis periodically. SOLUTION: An infrared monitoring system is provided with at least one set of a light transmitter which transmits an infrared signal and a light receiver which receives the infrared signal in each sensor pole of sensor poles 101-106. The sensor poles are installed in a monitoring section at predetermined intervals, and the system raises an alarm by detecting light shielding of the infrared signal by the light receiver. An optical axis oscillation means is provided for finely moving an optical axis of the light transmitter in two perpendicular directions by predetermined angles. After manually and roughly adjusting the optical axis of the light transmitter so that an optical signal from the light transmitter enters a range in which the optical signal is received by the light transmitters between the adjacent sensor poles among the sensor poles 101-106 installed at a plurality of parts in the section to be monitored, the optical axis of each light transmitter is automatically and finely adjusted using the optical axis oscillation means.
