PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods of detecting and diagnosing prostate cancer, and to provide therapeutic compositions for prostate cancer.SOLUTION: The invention provides a method: in which, a biological sample of a subject is measured for the expression level of newly identified EPC2 (ERG prostate cancer specific isoform 2) that is expressed selectively in prostate cancer tissue; the EPC 2 expression level is brought into connection with the presence or seriousness or stage of prostate cancer; and its increase represents the presence or seriousness or stage of the prostate cancer. The invention also provides the use of interfering RNA or antisense nucleic acid in the production of medicines for interfering the expression of EPC2 genes in prostate cancer cells.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 9
