An article management system has IC tags, IC readers for electronically detecting the IC tags, and a monitor and control section for sequentially detecting the positions of the IC tags by the IC tag readers in response to movement of the IC tags, determining whether the movement route indicated by sequentially detected positions is normal, and issuing an alarm when the result of the determination indicates a route that is not normal.
