<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a porous abradable coating for establishing the lowest effective running clearances between a shroud and bucket tips. <P>SOLUTION: Disclosed is a porous abradable coating (10) including at least one abradable layer (13) applicable to a substrate (12), the at least one abradable layer (13) comprising coarsely cut powder pieces (16). The porous abradable coating (10) can be formed by selecting a coarsely cut abradable powder (15) comprising coarsely cut powder pieces (16), applying at least one abradable layer (13) comprising the coarsely cut abradable powder (15) to a substrate (12), and creating a porosity (20) in the at least one abradable layer (13) via the coarsely cut abradable powder (15). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT</p> |
