The device (18) has a non-return valve (19) installable in a pipeline (16) for suppressing backflow in the pipeline. A buffer container (20) is provided upstream to the non-return value and is connected to the pipeline by a trigger valve (22) i.e. pressure control valve. The container is dimensioned such that a predetermined pressure level in the pipeline falls below than that of the valve (19) when the device is installed in the pipeline and the valve is closed with a preset temporal limited pressure rise in a disposal system (17).
