PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inexpensively and easily perform torque detection with a torque detector for vehicles for detecting transmission torque in a power transmission route between an engine and driving wheels. SOLUTION: The torque detector is provided with a spring damper 59 the relation of the stroke amount of which to the transmission torque is found beforehand, a first pulser P1 for detecting rotation of a member on a more engine side than the spring damper 59, and a second pulser P2 for detecting rotation of a member on a more driving wheel side than the spring damper 59. From the difference in phase between the output signals of the individual pulsers P1, P2, the amount of stroke of the spring damper 59 is detected, and the transmission torque is detected from the stroke amount and the relation obtained beforehand.
