PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for measuring simply an optical axis azimuth of a birefringent material. SOLUTION: The first mode of this optical axis azimuth measuring method, which is an optical axis azimuth measuring method of a spherical member 11 including a single crystal of an optically-uniaxial crystal having birefringence, has a step for irradiating light to the member 11 which is a measuring object, and a step for measuring the center position of isogyre formed of emission light emitted from the member 11 on at least two different observation surfaces. The optical axis azimuth is determined by utilizing a relation wherein the first angle formed between an incident direction of light constituting the center of the isogyre into the member 11 and a passing direction through the member 11 inside of the light after being subjected to the first refraction by the member 11 surface becomes equal to the second angle formed between the passing direction through the member 11 inside of the light and an outgoing direction of the light from the member 11 after being subjected to the second refraction by the member 11 surface.
