PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control the bypass air flow in a wide range of different flight states for improving the engine operation control and reducing the fuel consumption amount. SOLUTION: A variable area fan nozzle 40 used with a gas turbine engine system includes a nozzle section 56 movable between a plurality of positions for changing an effective area associated with a bypass air flow passing through a fan bypass passage 30 of the gas turbine engine. A protective coating 74 is disposed on the nozzle section 56. The protective coating 74 is resistant to undesirable change of the effective area of the nozzle section 56 caused by environmental conditions. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
