<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the fraudulent use of an image forming device without forcibly making a user perform a complicated operation. <P>SOLUTION: In a DRAM 13 and a nonvolatile RAM 14, the same authentication data is stored in advance, and the DRAM 13 receives the feeding of a power source directly from power source wiring which is connected with an external power source. When the decrease of a power source voltage level is detected by a power source voltage level detecting section 24, a CPU 11 forms new authentication data, and makes the DRAM 13 and the nonvolatile RAM 14 store the new authentication data, and at the same time, transmits the new authentication data to a host device through a network N. When this image forming device 2 is started, if the data of the DRAM 13 agrees with the data of the nonvolatile RAM 14, a normal motion is allowed, and when both data do not agree, the authentication data is acquired from the host device through the network N, and the authentication data is stored in the DRAM 13.
