PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical device having a light waveguide splitting structure which is suitable for highly efficiently detecting a part of light propagating in a light waveguide. SOLUTION: Among the ends (side surfaces) of an optical medium 20, a section corresponding to the upper part of the light waveguide 102, namely, a surface-a (end in front in the light travelling direction of the waveguide) and a surface-c (end on the near side in the light travelling direction of the waveguide) are formed by a plane nearly vertical to the surface of an LN (LiNbO<SB>3</SB>) substrate 101. From this end face (surface-a) in front in the light travelling direction of the waveguide, a part of the light propagating in the light waveguide 102 is split in the direction vertical to the substrate and radiated. Since the radiation direction is vertical to the substrate, the split light can be highly efficiently captured by a light detector 40 arranged on the upper part of the LN substrate 101.
