PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a microwave coagulation applicator and system in which heating to affected tissue is more suitably controlled and damage to surrounding normal tissue during treatment is minimized.SOLUTION: A microwave applicator 10 for insertion into living body tissue for use in microwave ablation treatment includes a microwave transmission line extending between an attachment end of the applicator and an antenna toward an insertion end of the applicator with an outer conductive sleeve 18 forming an enclosed fluid space around the transmission line. Circulation of cooling fluid is guided in the fluid space by a guide sleeve. A sensor detects the approximate temperature of the cooling fluid. A portion of the fluid can be injected into tissue around the applicator to moisturize untreated tissue. Multiplexing and power splitting circuits are included tuned for any of one or more applicators to detect the number of applicators and correct connections.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
