<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery electrode which improves the initial discharge capacity and charging/discharging cycle characteristics considering difference in the form of an electrode when formed and used and is well suited for a lithium ion secondary battery or the like, to provide a manufacturing method for the battery electrode, and to provide a secondary battery using the battery electrode. <P>SOLUTION: A lithium ion secondary battery is manufactured which contains materials with large energy capacity including elemental substances of silicon or tin and their compounds as active materials in a negative electrode active material layer forming a negative electrode.
