PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce damage caused by a broken connecting rod that drives the piston. SOLUTION: A reciprocating compressor 10 is provided with a crankcase 15 on the bottom of a cylinder 12, in which a piston 11 makes reciprocating motions. The rotation of a crankshaft 16 is converted to a reciprocating motion of the piston 11 by way of a connecting rod 23. A recess 27 is provided as a stress concentrating part in the surface on the rotating direction side at the root of a big end 23b of the connecting rod 23. The recess 27 functions to artificially specify a fracture location so that, when an excessive load acts on the connecting rod 23, a breakage occurs near the big end 23b. Provision of the recess 27 at a point near the big end 23b effectively prevents the fractured part of the connecting rod 23 from colliding with the inner wall of the crankcase 15 at a breakage. |
