PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction stir welding system and a friction stir welding method where whether a welded state is good or not can be determined with high precision while reducing a processing load. SOLUTION: In the friction stir welding system 1, of output signals S for measurement from an electric power detection sensor 104, an S2 part being corresponded therewith when a rotary tool 3 is pushed into a butted part L and an S4 part being corresponded therewith when the rotary tool 3 is pulled up from the butted part L are compared with a beforehand set threshold, and, based on the same, whether each output signal S for measurement is abnormal or not is determined. Thus, in the friction stir welding system 1, a single physical volume is monitored, and also, in the period from the start of friction stir welding to its completion, the parts where the variation of effective electric power fed to the system is remarkable are extracted, and whether abnormality is present or not is determined, therefore, whether the welding state of the welded part W is good or not can be determined with high precision while reducing a treatment load.
