The present technology relates to a reproduction device, a reproduction method, and a recording medium configured to display content having a large brightness dynamic range with appropriate brightness. A reproduction device according to an aspect of the present technology reads second coded data from a recording medium recording the second coded data between first coded data of a standard video which is a video in a first brightness range and the second coded data of an extended video which is a video in a second brightness range, performs communication with a display device capable of displaying the extended video, thereby acquires identification information of the display device, acquires brightness adjustment data according to a specification of the display device used to adjust brightness of the extended video based on the identification information of the display device, adjusts the brightness of the extended video obtained by decoding the second coded data based on the brightness adjustment data, and outputs data together with brightness characteristic information representing a characteristic of the brightness of the extended video to the display device.
