CONDITIONING AND TESTING COTTON FIBER

Machines for conditioning cotton fiber for testing and for processing, and instruments for testing fiber quality. High velocity conditioned gas flow through thin mats of materials are employed to condition cotton fiber. Moisture and chemicals may be introduced as aerosols as well. For color and trash measurements, an optical imaging device acquires images of both an unknown sample and a reference material in the same field of view. In an instrument classification embodiment, an instrumental classification of the sample under test is made. In a human classification embodiment, the image of the entire object field, including the sample under test and at least one reference material, is reconstructed for human classification, either locally or remotely. The image file may be transferred over the Internet to a remote location to implement "Internet Classing". Continuous compression permeability measurements are also disclosed.
