<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable displacement compressor capable of quickly discharging a liquid refrigerant from a crankcase into a suction pressure area with a capacity control valve interposed therebetween when a power supply amount reaches a predetermined value or higher and cutting the crankcase off the suction pressure area by closing the capacity control valve when the power supply amount does not reach the predetermined value, and the capacity control valve. <P>SOLUTION: This capacity control valve CV comprises a first rod 64 having a valve element part 64a in a valve chamber 66. The first rod 64 is biased in the direction of opening a communication passage 67 by the biasing force of a biasing spring 49. A second rod 62 is connected to the first rod 64 with a connection spring 63. In the fixed core 82 of a solenoid part 60, a first communication chamber 82a and a second communication chamber 82b are formed apart from each other at a position where it faces the peripheral surface of the second rod 62.
