PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel sheet for a vessel having excellent corrosion resistance and can making workability even if being subjected to surface treatment instead of chromating, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The steel sheet for a vessel has, at least on one surface of the steel sheet, a chemical conversion coating layer including at least two or more kinds of coating films selected from a zirconium coating film containing zirconium by 0.1 to 9 mg/m<SP>2</SP>in a metal zirconium amount, a phosphoric acid coating film containing phosphoric acid by 0.1 to 8 mg/m<SP>2</SP>in a phosphorous amount and a phenol resin coating film containing a phenol resin by 0.05 to 8 mg/m<SP>2</SP>in a carbon amount. Provided that the length of a major axis as a line segment with the maximum length among line segments connecting one end and the other end of an optional particle in the chemical conversion coating layer is denoted as a(nm) and the length of a minor axis as a line segment with the maximum length among the line segments connecting one end and the other end of the particle and also the line segments orthogonal to the major axis is denoted as b(nm), (a+b)/2≤200(nm) is satisfied.
