PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of efficiently manufacturing a polyester having a low refractive index and excellent in thermal stability which gives a multilayered laminated film having a low photoelastic coefficient and excellent light reflection properties. SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing a polyester having an alicyclic dicarboxylic acid alkyl ester and an alicyclic diol unit comprises: adding an alkaline earth metal, Zn, Co or Mn to a polyester ester in an amount of 30-200 ppm in terms of metal elements based on the polyester to cause a transesterification; and subsequently adding, before the polycondensation reaction, a metal compound of at least one of Ti, Sb and Ge elements as a catalyst in an amount of 5-500 ppm in terms of the total of the elements, a phosphorous compound in an amount of 50-500 ppm in terms of the phosphorus element, and an alkali metal compound in an amount of 2-1,000 ppm in terms of the alkali metal element.
