PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper discharge method for obtaining paper holding with simple structure irrespective of tray height in stand-by, and a paper discharge device. SOLUTION: The paper discharge device is equipped with a discharge port 70 for discharging a paper sheet P, a shutter part 10 provided under the discharge port 70, a discharge tray 166 for receiving the discharged paper sheet P, and a pressing member 1 which is provided at the shutter part 10, sandwiches the paper sheet P with the delivery tray 166 by relatively making an approach to the delivery tray 166, and linearly moves while holding the paper sheet P.
