With a four-planet, six-friction-element configuration, the present invention achieves nine forward speeds by combining the simultaneous fastening of three of the six friction elements. In this automatic transmission, a fourth brake (B4) is added, the fourth brake (B4) being capable of securing a first linking member (M1) to a transmission case (TC), the first linking member (M1) linking a first ring gear (R1) of a first planetary gear (PG1) and a second carrier (C2) of a second planetary gear (PG2). At least one speed is then added by combining the simultaneous fastening of three of the seven friction elements, including the fastening of the fourth brake (B4), whereby ten or more forward speeds are achieved. |
