<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power conversion apparatus and a stabilization method therefor wherein, when the response of a voltage controller is reduced, a converter controller is stabilized and the voltage Ecf across a filter capacitor is controlled to a constant value. <P>SOLUTION: The power conversion apparatus includes: a transformer 2 connected to an alternating-current power supply 1; a power converter 3 that converts alternating current into direct current; a direct-current stage circuit that is connected to the direct current side of the power converter 3 and includes the filter capacitor 7; a power inverter 4 connected to the direct current stage circuit; an alternating-current motor 8 connected to the power inverter 4; and the converter controller 11. The converter controller includes a voltage control unit 61, a current control unit 66, and a PWM control unit 68. The converter controller is input with a target value Ecf* of control of the voltage across the capacitor 7 and a detected value Ecf of the voltage across the capacitor and controls the voltage across the capacitor 7 to a constant value. The power conversion apparatus includes a compensating computation unit 10 that computes an amount Is** of secondary current compensation based on the target value Ecf* of control of and the detected value Ecf of the voltage across the capacitor.
