PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sorting device suitable to sorting operations for articles in a thin shape each. SOLUTION: A carry-in side transfer means 11 for carrying an article 1 is provided, which is rested in a sideway fallen attitude with its article surface turned upward while its identification code is shown therein. A reading part 13 is provided, which reads the identification code of the article to be carried by the carry-in side transfer means 11. An inverting part 14 is provided, which transforms the article 1 having passed the reading part 13 from the sideway fallen attitude to an inverted attitude. Inverted transfer means 15 and 18 are provided, which carry the article 1 having been inverted by the inverting part 14 in such a way as to be left as is inverted. A label sticking part 16 is provided, which sticks a label onto a peripheral part intersected with the carrying direction of the article 1 to be carried by the inverted transfer means 15 and 18. A printing parts 17 is provided, which makes printing over the label stuck on the peripheral part of the article 1 to be carried by the inverted transfer means 15 and 18. And a sorting part 19 is provided, which performs sorting in response to the result of reading by the reading part 13 while the article 1 is being carried with its attitude kept inverted.
