PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To use an electrically erasable, writable, inexpensive and small-scaled serial flash memory as a boot device. SOLUTION: A controller is provided with: a first data supply control means 4 for supplying data acquired by a data acquiring means for reading data stored in a serial memory 6 through a serial communication control part to an external bus 5 as start program data; and a second data supply control means 3 for supplying data stored in an ROM 3 to the external bus 5 as the start program data. The start program data to be transferred when a power source is started are supplied to the external bus according to the first data supply control means 4 or the second data supply control means 3. That is, a serial flash memory 6 is mounted as a boot device until a program is established, and switched to a mask ROM 3 after the program is established. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
