PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for processing images, which can accurately separate a moving object from a taken image. SOLUTION: The method for processing the images comprises the steps of: measuring a distance to each objects to be imaged, for example, by a UWB communication technique and the likes and generating a distance image corresponding to each pixel at the time T1 and at the time T2 (step 201 and step 202); generating a speed image calculated for each pixel of the object to be imaged based on a difference for each distance image at the time T1 and at the time T2 (step 203); dividing areas of the images based on a result derived from the step 203 (step 204 and step 205); and selecting an appropriate area (step 206).
