A bevel type gearing (5) and a pair of multiple disc clutches (8,9) are arranged between bearing apparatuses (16,17). The gearing includes a pinion (10) connected to an input shaft (2) and a crown wheel (11) meshed to the pinion and firmly connected to the external carriers (6,7) for the clutches. The clutches are also arranged radially within the gearing.
