PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a focus assist device enabling a user to recognize the focus adjusting state of a photographic lens with subjects in a plurality of set focus detection areas as reference. SOLUTION: At least two focus detection areas 171A and 171B are set in field, and the focus adjusting state at a present lens position with the subjects in the respective focus detection areas 171A and 171B as reference, that means, whether it is front focus or rear focus concerning both subjects A and B or whether space between the subjects A and B is brought into focus is easily known from the display form of marks 172 and 175. Therefore, the outline of the present lens position is known quickly when manual focusing.
