摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light processing element capable of efficiently emitting a uniformly polarized light, that is high in design flexibility and comprises a novel inorganic material. <P>SOLUTION: Light incident from an upper face is diffracted by a diffraction grating layer 2, comprising a single dimensional periodical pattern formed in parallel so as to resonate with incident light wavelength in reflection; and when the propagation constant matches the propagation mode of a high-refractivity index two-dimensional waveguide (wave guide layer 3) formed on a lower part, the diffracted waves are propagated through the wave guide layer 3. The light, propagating through the wave guide layer 3, is turned again into diffracted waves and is radiated to the upper part of a substrate. The separated and transmitted light is converted into a light of arbitrary polarization direction by a polarization rotation processing region 6 and is emitted from the lower part of the substrate. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT</p>
