PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively use also external-measurement information obtained in a detection view-field outside a photographing range for TV-AF, regarding a hybrid AF combined with a TV-AF system and an external-measurement phase difference detection system. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus includes: a first detection means 114 for creating first information corresponding to the contrast state of an image to be photographed; a control means 115 for performing a first focus control using the first information; and a second detection means 116 for detecting second information different from the first information out of the object image in the detection view-field. The second detection means includes a plurality of detecting parts 116a to 116c having detection view fields different from one another. The control means performs the first focus control using the second information detected by the detecting part whose detection view-field is outside the photographing range, out of the plurality of detecting parts.
