PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure a stable spark ignition operation at a low load operation, to secure a stable HCCI operation at a medium to high load operation, and to smoothly switch operations from the spark ignition operation to the HCCI operation without complicating the accompanying structure of a supercharger in an HCCI engine having the supercharger. SOLUTION: An electronic control unit (ECU) 30 controls the spark ignition timing by controlling an ignition plug 15 based on an intake air pressure Pin detected by an intake air pressure sensor 31 for performing a spark ignition operation when an engine 1 is in a low load state, and adjusts the fuel flow rate by controlling the opening of a fuel valve 14. The ECU 30 adjusts the fuel flow rate by controlling the fuel valve 14 based on the detected intake air pressure Pin for performing the HCCI operation when the engine 1 is in a medium to high load state.
