<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To identify genes involved in silicon absorption and having been unidentified so far, and to provide a method for the use of the genes. <P>SOLUTION: The genes (Lsi16, ZmLsi6, ZmLsi1) involved in the absorption and transfer of silicon or a silicon compound have been identified from rice and corn. A transformant transferred with either one of the above genes, because of being imparted with silicon-absorbing capacity, can be used as a composite stress-resistant plant. Meanwhile, a transformant suppressed in either one of the above genes, because of getting soft as a result of being suppressed in silicon-absorbing capacity, can be used as a raw material for livestock feed and biomass fuel. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT</p> |
