A method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display device 1 that is provided with a liquid crystal panel wherein a liquid crystal layer is interposed between a pair of substrates. This method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display device 1 comprises a pressing step wherein a liquid crystal panel 10 is contained within a closed space 50S in such a manner that a plate surface of at least one substrate of the liquid crystal panel is covered with a flexible sheet member 57, and the sheet member 57 is caused to bend and come into contact with the plate surface of the substrate by reducing the pressure within the closed space 50S, thereby pressing the plate surface by means of the sheet member 57. By reducing the pressure within the closed space 50S, in which the liquid crystal panel 10 is contained, the sheet member 57 bends toward the liquid crystal panel 10 and comes into contact with a part of the plate surface of the substrate, said part facing the sheet member 57. By further reducing the pressure within the closed space 50S, the part of the plate surface of the substrate, said part being in contact with the sheet member 57, is uniformly pressed by the sheet member 57. |
