摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging device, focus detection method, program and program recording medium that enable a selective use of an image pick-up element acquiring an image signal and implementing phase difference method focus detection in accordance with a degree of defocus.SOLUTION: An image pick-up element 102 and image pick-up element 103 (or an image pick-up element 104) each acquiring an image signal for displaying or recording, and enabling an acquisition of a signal for implementing a phase difference method focus detection are configured to receive one light flux of a light flux and other light flux of the light flux passing through an imaging lens and divided by a main mirror 101, respectively. In the second image pick-up element, an area of a pair of pupil regions on an exit pupil through which light to be received by a pair of photoelectric conversion units of a pixel unit passes is small when compared with that of a pair of pupil regions in the first image pick-up element.
