PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for reducing the number of connection cables to solve the problem that the measurement precision of a precision measuring tool is greatly affected by weight of a large amount of connection cables because the connection cables are required to transmit many control signals and measurement signals when a CPU controls the precision measuring tool such as a coordinate measuring instrument. SOLUTION: The number and the weight of wires interconnecting a host CPU and/or controller 52 with a precision measurement assembly 40 are reduced by using a common or shared bus. The bus may be entirely electrical or may include optical fibers to reduce EMI susceptibility. A custom bus or a known serial network bus (such as CAN or SIRCOS) may be used.
