摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a perpendicular magnetic recording medium wherein a soft magnetic layer used as a low K<SB>u</SB>layer is stably manufactured with high performance, and thermal stability of magnetization, and easiness of writing by a magnetic head are attained, and an SNR is further improved, and also to provide its manufacturing method. <P>SOLUTION: The perpendicular magnetic recording medium has at least a non-magnetic underlayer 2, a magnetic recording layer 3 and a protective layer 4, sequentially formed on a non-magnetic base body 1, wherein the magnetic recording layer comprises the low K<SB>u</SB>layer (31) having a relatively low perpendicular magnetic anisotropic constant (K<SB>u</SB>value) and a high K<SB>u</SB>layer (32) having a relatively high K<SB>u</SB>value. The low K<SB>u</SB>layer comprises a soft magnetic thin film having an iron group element fine crystal structure formed by adding a nitrogen element to a ferromagnetic material consisting essentially of any metal of Co, Ni and Fe or an alloy thereof and having a face-centered cubic lattice or a hexagonal close-packed crystal structure. As a preferential crystal orientation surface parallel to the film surface, a surface (111) is used in the case of the face-centered cubic lattice structure, and a surface (002) is used in the case of the hexagonal close-packed structure. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT</p>
