PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical element in which large change in refractive index can be induced by photoirradiation and is excellent in moldability and aging stability. SOLUTION: To prepare composition of polysilane and polysilazane, whose polysilane/polysilazane wt. ratio is about 5/95-95/5(particularly 10/90-70/30) and the polysilane can be composed of polyalkylarylsilane(particularly poly 1-6C alkyl 6-20C arylsilane), and to obtain optical element having a refractive index moduration structure composed of at least two layers(cladding(2) and core(3)) of different refractive index by exposing the thin layer of the polysilane and polysilazane composition structured on substrate(1).
