PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detection object detecting system, confirming the presence or absence of a detection object. SOLUTION: In this detection object detecting system A, it is detected whether a detection object D is present or absent in the periphery of a detecting device R using a detection tag T mounted on the detection object D. The detection tag T includes: an electric wave receiving means for receiving an electric wave sent by the detecting device R; a light receiving means for receiving a light signal irradiated by the detecting device R; a receipt report signal generating means for generating a receipt report signal when at least an electric wave is received; and a starting control means for controlling the start/stop of the light receiving means and the receipt report signal generating means. The detecting device R includes: an electric wave sending means for sending an electric wave to the periphery; a light emitting means for radiating a light signal to a search region preset in the periphery of the detecting device R; a control means for controlling the operation of these; and an object position specifying means for obtaining the distance from the detecting device R to the detection object D from the intensity of the receipt report signal and taking the light emitting direction of light irradiated by the light emitting means as the existing direction of the detection object D.
