A method and apparatus of transmitting a TokensSupportedRequest message is provided, the message comprising an 8 bit MessageID field which is transmitted over a communication link to an access terminal. A method and apparatus is further provided for receiving and processing the TokensSupportedRequest message. A method and apparatus for transmitting a TokensSupportedResponse message by the access terminal is also provided, the message comprising a 8-bit MessageID field, a 8 bit TokenCount field wherein the TokenCount field is set to number of SessionConfigurationToken fields included in the message. A method and apparatus is further provided for receiving and processing the TokensSupportedResponse message.
