A muffler/exhaust pipe system (1,23) comprising a muffler having an outer shell (6,22) formed from a composite material, wherein a perforated pipe (25) extends through said outer shell (6,22) at least one exhaust pipe (2,22) connected to said perforated pipe and a bushing (8) fitted around said exhaust pipe (2) and in contact with the muffler shell (6) or having a collar (4) having a wide end and a narrow end wherein said narrow end is fitted around the exhaust pipe and a bushing (8) is fitted around the wide end of said collar (4) wherein said muffler shell (6) is in contact with the bushing (8).
