RECORDING CONDITION DETERMINATION METHOD, RECORDING DEVICE, AND CONTROL PROGRAM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording device preventing local optimization in recording strategy adjustment even for an unknown medium.

SOLUTION: The recording device records a pattern sequence by irradiating a phase change recording medium with laser light which is intensity modulated with a recording strategy. The recording device includes a base recording strategy adjustment means 42 adjusting a pulse width of a base recording strategy to be used for recording strategy adjustment prior to other adjustments. The base recording strategy adjustment means includes: a pulse width dependency measurement control means 42a measuring the pulse width dependency on a difference in each reproduction signal modulation degree by reproducing each test pattern recorded for each erasure power condition; and a base pulse width selection control means 42b determining the optimum base pulse width for obtaining approximately the constant reproduction signal modulation degree independently of the erasure power condition.
