PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing phosphor nanoparticles in which a phosphor having a nanometer size can be obtained in shorter time than conventional method and yield can also be improved. SOLUTION: The method for producing the phosphor nanoparticles 11 comprises providing a phosphor 1 in a liquid 2 and irradiating the phosphor 1 through the liquid 2 with laser light 3 to carry out ablation of the phosphor.
