A multimedia data source to sink transmission procedure buffers and decodes the data packets, and for trick mode use can change (t3) into another operating mode with removal (t4) of packets without a marker ID m(Identity) which is then sent to the source for use in marking future packets (t5) with ID testing at the sink before decoding. Independent claims are included for data source and sink devices controlled using the procedure.
