PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely measure the shape of a negative angle section of a measured object with a relatively simple constitution. SOLUTION: In the shape measuring method of measuring the shape of the negative angle section 1a of a measuring workpiece 1, a measuring tool 6 having two marks 22a and 22b and a sphere 23 whose mutual positional relation is known is installed so that the sphere 23 comes into contact with the surface of the negative angle section 1a. Next, marks 22a and 22b attached to the measuring tool 6, and the measuring workpiece 1 or a part thereof are imaged by a camera 2. Next, picked up image data is loaded into a personal computer 11, and a personal computer 12 calculates the center coordinate of the sphere 23 based on the loaded image data. Next, the personal computer 12 matches the calculated center coordinate with CAD data of a previously prepared measuring workpiece 1 in the same coordinate system, calculates the minimal length from the calculated center coordinate to the measuring workpiece 1 shown by shape data, and determines the shape error of the negative angle section 1a based on the minimal length.
