Field emission display device and method of operating the same

The device has a conductive layer (23) that is formed on a substrate (22) which is biased at a voltage level of 0 volts. A conductive layer (25) is formed on the substrate which is biased at a voltage level of 300 to 1000 volts. Emitters (26, 27) are formed on the layers (23, 25) and are provided for emitting electrons. A phosphor layer (24) is formed on the substrate and placed between the layers (23, 25). The electrons are emitted from the layer (23) through the layer (24) till the layer (25) in a direction orthogonal to a normal direction of the substrate. An independent claim is also included for a method of implementing a field emission device.
