PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems of a QWERTY type keyboard requiring a keyboard space because of a number of keys, and a matrix type key arrangement of a cellular phone, in which a large number of keys require complicated character selection and a small size of a keyboard makes key pressing difficult, and a keyboard with a small number of key buttons requires increase in the number of key hitting operations and training and proficiency for memorizing a key arrangement. SOLUTION: The key features of this input device having five key buttons, a shift button, and a conversion button are as follows: different five types of signal input switches are allocated to the five buttons individually, one of the five key buttons is adjacently surrounded by the rest of four buttons, and according to permutations and combinations of two buttons in the five buttons, a character is inputted.
