PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device that can perform fast alignment transition from splay alignment to bend alignment. SOLUTION: The present invention provides a method for transiting the alignment of a liquid crystal into bend alignment by applying an electric field to the liquid crystal held between a first substrate and a second substrate opposing to each other, wherein the splay elastic constant k11 of the liquid crystal is specified to a range of 10×10<SP>-7</SP>dyn≥k11≥6×10<SP>-7</SP>dyn, and the absolute valueθ1 of a pretilt angle of the liquid crystal with respect to the first substrate and the absolute valueθ2 of a pretilt angle of the liquid crystal with respect to the second substrate are specified to satisfy the relation 1.57 rad>¾θ1-θ2¾≥0.0002 rad.
