A polishing device and a polishing method capable of removing turning reed marks on a shaft-like work having an oil seal fitting part on its outer peripheral surface by using a grinding method in which a grinding fluid is not required. The polishing device for the shaft-like work is characterized by comprising the headstock of a lathe supporting the shaft-like work having the oil seal fitting part on its outer peripheral surface rotatingly about the axis of the shaft-like work, a slide table installed on the tool turret of the lathe movably in the radial direction, a first drive means (air cylinder) longitudinally moving the slide table in the state of facing the axis of the headstock, an elastic grinding wheel rotatably fitted to the slide table and allowed to radially advance and retreat relative to the oil seal fitting part by the movement of the slide table, and a second drive means (brushless motor) rotating the elastic grinding wheel. ® KIPO & WIPO 2008 |
