<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lightweight and inexpensive automatic transmission. <P>SOLUTION: A substantially annular recessed portion supporting the component of a clutch assembly is arranged in a drum moving around a shaft by the clutch assembly for the automatic transmission. A clutch pack is supported in the recessed portion of the drum. A clutch piston is movably coupled to the drum and can be relatively moved in a substantially axial direction between an engagement position and a disengagement position with/from the clutch pack. A pressing spring continuously presses the clutch piston toward the disengagement position. The sidewall of a resin strut plate is brought into contact with one end of the pressing spring. The sidewall is reinformed by a box section formed of an outer wall extending at a certain angle from the one end of the sidewall, an inner wall extending from the opposite end of the sidewall and axially stepped toward the clutch piston, and reinforcing ribs mutually connecting the sidewall, outer wall, and inner wall.
